The MPhil-PhD Program in Computational Social Science is designed for students who wish to pursue an academic career in the broad area of computational social science and humanities. It will train students to identify interesting and promising research topics and conduct research projects by bridging the gap between computational techniques and traditional studies in humanities and social sciences.

The PhD in Experimental Research Through Design, Art and Technologies programme aims to train a new generation of researchers capable of embracing the opportunities offered by the convergence of design, art, social sciences, humanities and technology, integrating complex knowledge to address multiple global challenges from a post-disciplinary perspective.

The programme focuses on theoretical knowledge as well as practical experience in the field of doctoral studies. Cooperation with international research institutes is highly supported. The study programme is designed to fulfil demands and meet societal and industry requirements for highly educated and qualified professionals in the fields of design and process engineering.

The Graduate School’s support concept for doctoral students is modelled on the well-established structure developed in the doctoral programme ‘Manuscript Cultures’, which started with the SFB 950 ‘Manuscript Cultures in Asia, Africa and Europe’ in 2011.

Since 2019, the Doctoral program of Social Sciences FISIP UNAIR organizes a Program by Research that prioritizes research as the main activity and academic activities are carried out independently with a clear and connected external. Once the doctoral program participants are accepted, they will be given debriefing in the fields of methodology, theory, philosophy, methods of writing, and writing scientific information as a means for scientific publication.

The Ph.D. in Social Science prepares students who wish to pursue a career in academia, policy research or consultancy related to the affairs of society, polity, or economy, broadly conceived. As with MPhil students, Ph.D. students are assigned a thesis advisor and provided with a postgraduate studentship that carries with it the responsibilities of teaching/research assistance.
