Sustainable development is a type of economic development that involves planning for business growth while taking care to preserve natural resources. A primary goal of those studying the field is to learn how to meet today’s economic demands without compromising the availability of resources moving forward.  

An extreme lack of resources coupled with a poor economic situation has made The Gambia a poor choice for those seeking a degree in higher education. Though the number of educated Gambians is on the rise, it is still far lower than the international average.

The PhD is a doctoral degree, specifically called a "doctor of philosophy" degree. This is misleading because PhD holders are not necessarily philosophers (unless they earned their degree in philosophy!). That said, PhD recipients are able to engage in thought experiments, reason about problems, and solve problems in sophisticated ways.
