Distance Learning
English, Italian
PhD by research via Distance Learning is awarded after successfully completing a theoretical research specialization. This research is presented in the form of a doctoral thesis. The PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) is the only doctoral degree that can be achieved through distance learning. The main requirement for a PhD online through distance learning is to present and discuss a thesis of at least 100 pages for review and evaluation by an academic committee at Selinus University. Research in this area of food science should provide data on how to provide the world's population with safe, nutritious, appetizing and affordable food. Achieving this goal requires an in-depth study of the issues of processing, packaging, distribution and evaluation of food. It involves many disciplines and uses the principles of biology, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, biochemistry, nutrition, physics and engineering to solve practical problems related to the food industry. Food scientists were among the first to work with biotechnology. Food scientists work with food from the moment it leaves the farm to the storage of the final product, including all processing, preparation and distribution operations. In addition, they determine the factors that influence the safety, nutritional value and acceptability of food.

What is Food Science?
Food science studies food and how it relates to the environment, society, and economy. It includes the study of food production, processing, safety, and nutrition. Food science also encompasses the study of foodborne illness and contamination.
What can I do with a degree in Food Science?
A degree in food science can lead to a career in the food industry, working in areas such as food production, processing, safety, and nutrition. Food science graduates may also work in the area of foodborne illness and contamination research. There are opportunities for those with a background in food science to work in government agencies or private companies that are involved in the regulation of the food industry. Food science graduates may pursue careers in academia, teaching and conducting research at universities and colleges.
Why study Food Science?
Food science is important for several reasons. It helps us understand how food affects our health and the environment, which can help improve food production and processing methods, ensuring food we eat is safe and nutritious. By studying food science, we can also learn more about how to prevent and control foodborne illness. Finally, food science helps us understand the complex economic and social factors that impact food production and consumption.
Food Science degrees
Food science degrees are offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Undergraduate programs typically last for four years and cover topics such as food chemistry, microbiology, and nutrition. Graduate programs usually last for two years and include coursework in advanced food science topics encompassing food physics and engineering.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom and Britain, is a sovereign state located off the north-western coast of continental Europe. The two most famous (and oldest) universities are Oxford and Cambridge (often referred to as Oxbridge by many Britons) England also has several other world-class institutions, including several in London (notably Imperial College, the London School of Economics, University College London and King's College London, all are part of London University)
The PhD is a doctoral degree, specifically called a "doctor of philosophy" degree. This is misleading because PhD holders are not necessarily philosophers (unless they earned their degree in philosophy!). That said, PhD recipients are able to engage in thought experiments, reason about problems, and solve problems in sophisticated ways.
