A specialized online Ph.D. offered by an intergovernmental university with recognized expertise in interfaith studies.
The DIRD (and DIFS) are unique programs in the sense that they are actually offered by an intergovernmental organization with a university charter and an additional mandate in inter-religious dialogue and diplomacy. Notably, EUCLID is the only university which has received the first prize of the UN World Interfaith Harmony Week, presented by H.M. King Abdullah of Jordan (photo below).
EUCLID offers several closely related but nevertheless distinct graduate programs:
DIRD: Ph.D. in Interreligious Dialogue and Diplomacy
DIFS: Ph.D. in Interfaith Studies
DCRel/DCCTh: PhD in Comparative Religion / Comparative Christian Theology
This page focuses on the DIRD: EUCLID’s Ph.D. in Inter-Religious Dialogue and Diplomacy, the umbrella program designed to train diplomats, government officials and civil servants in this complex and specialized field. These programs, delivered 100% online, exist to prepare government officials, social workers, clergy, theologians and faculty members to successfully and constructively engage in inter-religious dialogue and diplomacy. This program assumes a strong interest in religion, spirituality, theology, critical thinking, academic research and global affairs. Furthermore, it is open to students from all religious backgrounds including non-believers, although its focus may be of special interest to Muslims and Christians since it was—to an extent—developed in response to the “Common Word” initiative. However, it does assume the following:...
The department's course offerings are organized in four fields: Political Theory, American Politics, International Politics, and Comparative Politics.
Welcome to the Department of Political Science at Boston College
We are an unusual department, a department that has resisted the trend pushing political science research away from questions that are relevant to citizens and political actors. Though we are particularly strong in the humanistic and qualitative approaches to politics, we celebrate methodological diversity. Twenty-six full-time faculty members (both senior and junior) teach in the department. We are also fortunate to have colleagues in a variety of other research and practice positions. This results in a considerable range in subject matter and academic approach. What unites our nationally renowned faculty is the recognition of the primacy of political problems and the conviction that these problems should determine the methodology that is appropriate in each case....

The taught part of the course will last for two academic years if you’re a full-time student. In your final year (with the option of applying for a one-year extension), PhD candidates will complete a thesis within about one year. This thesis will enable you to reflect on pertinent issues of diplomacy in light of the theory and conceptual knowledge you have gained over the course of your degree – as well as through your independent research....
